As part of the review of Competitive Manufacturing the name of the qualifications will be updated to Competitive Systems and Practices.
MSA is making the change in response to feedback that that improvement processes need to extend along a value chain and should extend beyond a single organisation if the full potential of improvement processes covered by the qualifications and units of competency are to be achieved. The title change also recognises the use of the current qualifications by many organisations outside of manufacturing. The new title was chosen by MSA after a public survey requesting feedback on a range of suggested titles.
Competitive Systems and Practices reflects practices and principles that have been developed in the manufacturing sectors over the last 80 years, often referred to as Lean manufacturing, Lean production or just ‘Lean’.
It provides tools, knowledge and skills for establishing work systems and practices that support immediate and ongoing improvements to a business usually targeting improvements in efficiency, waste reduction, customer service, employee morale and costs.
