The resources will help Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and enterprises to design and deliver effective skills development programs for sustainability.
They are intended as one source of information about the breadth and complexity of sustainability in order to help RTOs to:
- Undertake detailed research about specific concepts and techniques
- Consult with industry and customise their programs
- Develop their training and assessment strategy
- Design their assessment processes
- Develop their training and assessment resources.
The resources provide general information and examples only and do not reflect any mandatory requirements for training and assessing the units.
What are the resources?
Core unit resources
There are ten core units across the three Sustainable Operations qualifications.
The Core unit resources explain key concepts and practices that underpin each competency. And there is a downloadable assessment guide for each core unit.
Sustainability sector guides
The Sustainability sector guides show how different sustainability issues affect different sectors or even processes within a sector. Some might have high energy or water consumption while others might need to focus on supply chain issues or community relationships.
Embedding Energy Management
Embedding Energy Management is a structured program that provides a suite of practical tools, practice guides, case studies and examples of industry best practice in energy management.
The program and resources are contextualised for foundries and other heat or energy intensive businesses.
Energy Efficiency Skill Sets and resources
There are six Skill Sets for energy efficiency in the MSS Sustainability Training Package.
The resources explain the Skill Sets and will assist RTOs to design and deliver training and assessment. Examples of online assessment questions are provided for each Skill Set.
Energy Efficiency videos
These videos show real examples of Australian businesses, their energy challenges and solutions. The videos also explain key concepts that underpin the Skill Sets.
The videos can be viewed online or RTOs can choose to link to or embed the videos in their own programs.

They explain the basic concepts and show some simple and some more sophisticated ways they might be applied.
